Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies [MACP] announced today that Heather Kukla has been promoted to Vice President and General Counsel. Heather’s expanded role will include Board planning and coordination, as well as certain operational responsibilities previously held by Paul Busch, who was promoted to President & CEO effective July 1, 2017.
Heather joined MACP in 2009 as Director of Legal Affairs, and she was promoted to General Counsel in 2016. She also serves as secretary to the MACP Boards of Directors. During her tenure, Heather has led the organization’s governance initiatives, and she has been a key member of the MACP leadership team.

Cargill Philanthropies, Heather has demonstrated exceptional leadership on many of our strategic initiatives,” said Paul Busch, President & CEO at MACP. “We are fortunate to have someone with her ability to not only manage complex projects but also provide strong direction and support to our internal teams.”
Prior to joining the Philanthropies, Heather practiced law with Hogan & Hartson LLP, first in Washington, D.C. and later in New York. While there, Heather focused primarily on commercial litigation, and spent considerable time serving pro bono legal clients. She received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of North Dakota and her juris doctor from Georgetown University Law Center.
