Lawrence University is taking its green initiatives a step further thanks in part to a three-year grant to fund sustainability initiatives.
The private liberal arts school located in the heart of Appleton is looking to get students invested in improving the university’s environmental footprint in areas ranging from recycling and composting to how they use water and energy to what they eat, how they get around and what and where they make their purchases.
The new sustainability initiative is supported by a three-year grant from Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies, university officials announced Monday.
The funding will support leadership opportunities for students, professional development opportunities for faculty and infrastructural improvements to the campus. In addition, part of the grant will be used for a special fund for Lawrence community members to seek support for sustainability-focused projects connected to classes, research or co-curricular programs.
